"El Coloso"

I saw the "Grito" last night on TV, was moved by seeing all the people celebrating, although there was a wtf point when a 20 meter high statue of a nameless independence fighter was erected on the Zocalo(?).

I can't even explain properly why I find this disquieting. It's so over the top "official art" and designed to inspire awe that I recoil. Also, it kind of reminds me of the plaster curious they sell to tourists in Tijuana, except for the 20 meters and 8 tons thing.

It's kinda cool that it be some anonymous fighter, though. I mean, at least in our history over here, almost any procer they can honour has some crime against humanity in their book (obv against the native people, so they still honour them -_-).

Yeah, I like who it is meant to honor. But also doing some of the original leaders of the movement would have been a mess. Hidalgo, the father of our country, if we do have one, was not a stellar human being.

Cool idea, only I'd would have liked something not so much in the spirit Michael Jackson's HIStory :(
