SPN, fic and whiskey sours
There is another clusterfuck going on in SPN Big Bang that caught my attention because it doesn't just feel like a rerun, but like an episode where you can remember all the dialog, music and guest stars. It involves making the Haiti earthquake a backdrop for a RPS fic. Really, IDK how people decide doing something like that is a good idea. Even if it's only out of self interest, you would think people in general would stay away from combining recent human tragedy with fanfic.
BTW, the SPN big bang started this past week and I was happy to find one story I enjoyed very much, a sweet (but not overly so) romcom, Becoming Who We Are. Usually BBs have tons of stories, but only one or two that grab me, so I felt lucky that during the first week I found one that made me so happy.
Now I need to google a good recipe for whisky sours. I had my second one ever tonight and yes, I must learn how to make these wonderful drinks. Just the right balance of citrus against the usually unpalatable whisky taste. I have yet to develop a taste for straight whisky, maybe because it reminds me of the boozy smell of my dad after a bender. But see, lemons have ~*magical*~ properties that seem to make whisky into something I actually want to drink.

I love whiskey sours, but I don't have a recipe. My favourite kind of sour is amaretto, a liqueur which I usually would not consume otherwise. What is it about the sour that changes the character of the drink so much??

Re sours, amaretto you say? Hmmm. I have to look that up as well. It's sweet enough that I'm guessing no syrup needs to be used. I now know that whiskey sours is just lemon and some kind of sweetener added, like simple syrup. Will have to try to make one and also look up amaretto sours. I have a bottle of the stuff at home that I never touch, precisely because it's too sweet.

Genocide? I can't even think of what the summaries would say. I am trying to recall the fandom for that fic with the 9/11 backdrop, but I'm drawing a blank. What I remember is the theme of communication, which drew on the 9/11 logistical problems of contacting people within the City at the time. Now that I think of it, there was no romance involved. I read an apocafic once set in WWII. That was also gen. Maybe that's part of the deal for me.
ETA: I felt silly talking about the fic issue with you without knowing the particular context. Found some of its contents quoted, though, and uh, ok, the ethical concerns were way beyond what I had imagined.

9/11 was mentioned as the backdrop for a lot of X-Men fics, but I never saw that myself, since by 2001 I had found Smallville and a long affair with a bad, bad show.
The story is pretty bad, beyond the basic premise. The apology by the author sounds like she still doesn't get it, so I can only hope that at least a few people will stop and think a bit more next time something like this comes along. It will happen again and again until we're old and gray, I'm afraid.
