Pirahna eating

Having never fished in my life, catching a piranha as my first fish ever seems to have been the most memorable touristy moment of our trip to Amazonas. I've mentioned it often enough to people around me, including the fish fry that followed, because I thought it was fun. Some people made the D: face at the idea of eating piranha, but my mental rule that 99.9999% of food, if fried, is pretty palatable, holds.

Beer helps! Beer always help with fried stuff. They could have made a soup that seems to be pretty popular instead, but in any case I'd not missed the chance to snack on something that my mom (a great worrier) was afraid might snack on me when I first mentioned this trip ;)

You want to the Amazon?! I could not be more envious if you'd gone to the Moon. How awesome! And piranha fishing!! This is what I get for being so sporadic in my reading lately, I would totally have wished you an awesome trip! Will there be photos?

I took some photos, although not as many as I should have. I'm hoping I can contact some of the other travelers in our little boat and get copies from them. Some of the people had serious camera equipment, not like my little Canon Snapshot.

It was pretty damn cool being on the Rio Negro and then the Amazon. Saw sloths, iguanas, anteaters, squirrel monkeys, macaws, all sort of beautiful birds and flowers, orchids, tarantulas, etc.

Going to the Amazon was a life long dream of my husband and he enjoyed even more than I did. We went on a boat with 13 other people and a crew of 7, stayed on the rivers for 8 days.

This is a bit like my friend who the first race he ever ran was a marathon!

But I want to hear about the rest of your trip.

I hoped he trained well for that! I hear horror stories of what running a marathon can do to a body. Maybe they exaggerate!

I'll be posting a bit more on the trip. There are a lot of good memories that I wan to preserve.

Sounds like a very cool trip! And I think there's a kind of poetic justice in catching and eating a piranha?

I thought of that when I first heard we were going to be taken out to fish for piranha. The way you fish for them is that first you strike the water with your fishing pole, to simulate an animal in distress on the water's surface!
