First strawberries

This morning we had the first two strawberries from our garden. They taste different than even the best bought strawberries, just like home grown tomatoes taste better. These two were sweeter and the texture is a lot more delicate, and you can tell right away they would not survive being handled much.

! my mother sent me some of my parents' first strawberries as well today (a package arrives within a day, so she will often send me fresh fruit from the garden), and she packed them so cleverly that they didn't bruise at all. And cherries!!! (I never buy cherries, too expensive, and those from our yard are delightfully dark and juicy...) I can't quite decide what to do with them -- I'll probably end up eating them fresh, with a bit of cream and sugar. ...yum :3

Lucky girl! I've never had cherries that I know are from someone's garden, and usually that are not as tasty as the idea of what a cherry should be. But this year I bought some recently (SoCal living means a lot of fruit and produce at very good prices - except for the fact that we don't have water and we're heading for a major crisis :() that were actually the best I've had in a long time.

I was thinking cream and sugar would be perfect for home grown strawberries! You don't need much to enjoy their wonderfulness :D
